Hq

Eldrad Ulthran - 3 powers a turn and can use 2 of the same powers. totally worth it - 210 pts

Troops

5 Rangers - every eldar army needs these guys - pathfinders +25 pts - 120 pts

3 jetbikes - taking the objectives - 66 pts

Elites

3 WaveSerpents - because traveling there could not be faster - shurikin cannons 10 pts each - 300 pts for whole lot

10 Howing banshees - i shouldnt need to elaborate on these beasts - exarch +12, exicutioner +10, war shout +5 - 187 for all of them

Surfing the internetz/update

Hey guys i was looking up some space marine color schemes and Eldar craftworlds and i came across an Angry marine command squad. When i saw this photo i couldnt help but laugh and kind of want to make an angry marine army. when you see the photo you might just want to do the same.

Also im starting up an eldar army (going ulthwe because i wanna use eldrad) ill get the 1500 point list posted as soon as i write it up which i cant wait to see the full list in action. Updates: the first campaign we did is over. The post before this one has the final listings. Next saturday is just going to be free play and im thinking of doing a collective overview of the campaign and how we need to do changes to it as well as have more people intrested in it. So that is all i have at the moment

...Look at the angry marines...laugh...make an angry marine army...do it...you know you want to...

Anyways here: so Zack came out of the tourny in 1st place. Then with a surprising turn of events (which i think was awesome gotta give him props for this) Michael who was in last place kicked our asses in the apocalypse game and came out with second! So michael grats!!!! :D Next, Necron lord sean came in with third and me with last. So overall it was a good tournament, had lots of fun, and had started to come up with ideas for our next tournament/campaign. anyways thats the standings and im off to find that damn pesky cable...

A Possible New 2k Point List

Hey guys. I was on my way home today and i had the most awesome idea: to make a ridiculous 2000 point list! The way i made it somewhat follows what i field normally, my mechanized list, to a mainly assault marine force! here it is:

HQ

Dante-200 pts
Lemartes- 125 pts
Honor guard squad: Sanguinary high priest, Tech adept, Chapter champion, Chapter banner, 2 power weapons(one on the high priest and on another vet), 1 plasma pistol,
Jump packs - 315 pts
Troops

Assault squad 1: 5 men, power fist - 165 pts
Assault squad 2: 5 men, power fist - 165 pts
Assault squad 3: 5 men, power weapon - 155 pts
Assault squad 4: 5 men, power weapon - 155 pts

Elites

Death company: jump packs, 5 guys - 25 pts
Veteran assault squad 1: 2 power weapons, 1 power fist, 2 melta guns - 225 pts
Veteran assault squad 2: 3 power weapons, 2 melta guns - 215 pts

Heavy support

Whirlwind 1: bare points - 85 pts
Whirlwind 2: bare points - 85 pts
Whirlwind 3: bare points - 85 pts

Seeing the look on my opponents face when fielding the army - Priceless

Anyways thats the list i made up leave me a comment bellow telling me what you think about it!

Hey guys, its Ian putting up where the campaign is at! First off we have Battlemaster Zack in first with 2 victory points, Me with 1.5 victory points, Tomblord Sean with 1 victory point, and Sisters of battle Michael with none so far. Thats the standings! Its been 3 weeks and we have had many viscous battles, both wins and losses. In addition of having be halfway through the campaign, we will get to switch up 500 points in our armies. I am deffinately switching some things around and i cant wait to use them on the field! But i wish luck to all the other players in switching up their list!

Legands Gets Solar Power

Well not the kind that actually dose anything, but this weekend Bay Hammer in conjunction with Legends Comics in Cupertino officially opened the roster for the Macharian crusade (as provided by BoLs) The mood was casual as we all started going over the layout of the campaign and army costs where decided.

In a more hi lariating turn of events Co editor Ian was apparently torn apart by self proclaimed newbie Waagh leader Zach, though I was not able to witness this spectacular (though he claims narrow) victory I was assured that Ian's blood angels where on the receiving end of a good krimp'en so congrats to Zach.

Alright this last bit is important so read carefully if you want to enter the campaign cause slots are limited and we do have prize support.

There is no entry fee:
That's right since this will be Bay Hammer and Legends first major GW sponsored event we are giving you the first taste free.

Sessions will be held every Saturday until the end of the campaign:
possibly extended if theres a tie in the scores.

The minimum points required are 1500 and no less:
you can make any combination you want to achieve this just make sure it is all outlined in your list.

Army lists required:
please submit your lists to me through the Bay Hammer gmail at BayHammer@gmail.com
these have to be submitted to me by this weekend after that we cant take any more entries cause the campaign will be kicking off this Saturday.

Have fun:
in all seriousness we are not running a major tourny here, we are hanging out and playing through the campaign and if you happen to make top dog you get some swag, armies don't have to be painted but it is preferred.

Now enjoy some pics from Saturdays meet up:

everyone having a totaly not staged moment

Update: Nids Cover and link

Since the last Article was rather rushed I thought I should appropriately link to the GW announcement and what have you. So with out further hesitation and what not here's the link, also enjoy the preview of the new Codex up top there.

The announcement mentions some new models and a creature no one has ever seen before, could it perhaps be a dominatrix like creature/brood beast one can only speculate on whats in store for the next nids book but I for one am tingling with anticipation for new models to mutilate for my up coming Chaos Tyranids minidex.

The new quarter internal SKUs should be coming out around Christmas so I will try and "acquire" a copy so we might get a glimpse of what GWs Q3 releases are.

NEWS:Nids Codex

Not sure how to stretch this out but it just came down the line (as well as the GW website) that the new Codex Tyranids will be released this January, so brace yourselves for the next wave of nid mania induced lists. On that note now would be a good time to start speculating on what your anti nid lists are going to be. As for an exact date in January I have no idea but bank on it being a tuesday.

Our Sponsor WCC is offering something off the radar this week (or atleast thats what I am told) they are selling pre orders of the new and supposedly un announced Space wolves battleforce. While I hope that dropped a few jaws I havent been in to check on GW througly so please flog me if this is already known, if not then you heard it here first, cause thats what I am here for to do things that all the big names miss (gotta have a niche)

So start drafting up your bug crushing massive last stand anti nid lists now gentlemen, the hive fleet approches.

Cheers

I have been getting on Ian about starting his editorial section so expect more words soon.

The Wolf Pack has arived

A Word from our sponsors:
West Coast Comics and collectibles now has all the Space Wolves plastic kits and the codex now listed for pre sale at there usual 25% off. I am told they have already burned through there first pre order batch of 15 units so get your order in today.

Bitz and bobs:
Ok so after the space hulk rant I suppose I should put on the brakes for awhile (even if I have barely been getting a post in) but The new IG bitz on the new release page grabbed my attention, both in a good and bad manner. I love the gun crew and the tank commander, how ever the poor excuse for heads they are offering just blew me away with the absolute lack of wow factor, a few of them look ok but as they appear to be attempting to offer some sort of variety in the selection you get they fall damn short in my book. Now don't get me wrong I love GW has finally cracked the seal on kitbashing for the IG but come on, for the money I can still honestly say I would rather stick with my pig iron heads, they don't have the variety but you get more and they are about the same price. I am sure this will raise much disagreement among some of the GW loyalists but I was just not happy with the offering. The fact that they are also pumping out more metal minis is also disparaging as a lot of us are still hoping for the great plastic change over.

All in all there are some interesting bitz there but nothing really special, as I said the gun crew was a great little set and if your looking to kit out your Russ with the Pask like character the tank commanders set seems a solid bet. But as for the other offerings such as the Aquilas and tank baggage it just fails to perk my interest or indeed serve a purpose other then make a feeble attempt to reconcile us for the loss of the bitz service.

Cheers

If your looking for a chaos defiler at a damn good price buy this F#$! thing so I can win my bet and continue to support BH, I swear its cursed.

NEWS: You can put away your gauss rifles

Recently sources have indicated that its going to be tyranids that get the next codex update, now while I cannot say 100% the markers for an update are in place. You simply have to look around your FLGS or ask at a GW store for a Codex or battleforce, that's right as of this month GW has pulled both Codex:Tyranids and the nid battleforce from there retail catalog. This came as some what of a surprise when I glanced over there latest retail SKU book and found both items suspiciously missing but if GWs past release practices are any indicator you can bet that they will be going over nids next.

How do I feel about this. Well as a Guard/SM player and veteran Eldar Seer I am not overly pleased that neither my space elves or there pigment challenged brethren did not get the update bracket but speaking bluntly the nids deserve it, now not to say they got blind sided like DE or the Necrons but this is a popularity contest and lets be honest a lot more people have been picking up nids lately so GW goes where the money is. So in short its wonder full that one of the older books/races is getting an update and while its not on of my personal taste at least GW is actually doing it.

What's wrong with space hulk?
I have been meaning to get this short rant off my chest since I got a crack at the set so here it goes. GW botched the marketing of Space Hulk, now don't get me wrong good on them for bringing it back but this space hulk has absolutely no soul. It was concocted in the labs of GWs marketing dept to make all our wallets a little lighter. Instead of putting forth a game with in the genera of 40k to entice new and interested/younger players they have brought forth a limited release monster packed with detailed models that even I am having trouble getting in every detail to make them presentable (though not to say you couldn't play unpainted but come on) it is how ever still the great game it always has been made greater by better molding techniques and new rules but I have to say that a hulking price tag along with a overwhelming set of detailed models is to far beyond the reach of the casual board gamer. I think if anything GW owes us at least a secondary release this Christmas. Speaking of the holidays if you have the remote chance of getting a copy of SH before they haul out the tinsel do so because retail sources are indicating available copies could rise in price to over $199.00 based on demand, and GW has already sold out online. WCC might still have a few so get a copy while you can or hey buy two and resell and twice the value and go pick up that forge world model you have always wanted.

Contest Winner

Lets have a hand for Jhon Dickerman for his winning entry into the conest, after several showings to both readers and friends and constant split decisions his entry of a Blood letter/Warrior was deemed the best choice out of the three fantastic entrys. Here is his entry again in more vivid detail for you. We all felt that his entry exemplified the theme the most and so congrats again. And as promised he has his pick of any GW product valued up to $30 through our sponsor West Coast Comics and Collectibles who have been supporting us almost since day one and will continue to offer our readers the same low pricing on all GW products (except space hulk so read the P.S.) I would like to thank everyone who submitted an entry (two of which are CA bay area locals) you both made wonderfull and unique pieces that I hope will grace one of your games in future. Hopefully we will be running more contests like this in future and be able to offer more prize support for the runners up (once we get them Ill hook everyone up with BH radio T's) again thanks for reading and sticking with us while we sorted out all the fun life stuff, and remember Bay Hammer was started for all us west coast gammers who have always seemed to be over looked when it comes to the 40k world, so thank you all for supporting us.

Cheers

Scott

P.S.

Alright so in my last post I told you all WCC got in a large stock of space hulk at the discounted price, well thats half what happend, WCC is not a major operation in a warehouse or part of a large distrubution network, so when they sold off the first 10 in the course of $48 at the discount price they couldent break even on the sales. But they do have them in stock and there are about 10 left and going fast. So help support your local game Suppliers and shop WCC all of there regular GW items are still competivly priced at 25% off which is still the best deal out there so far.

Back online

From the depths of the logistics hell that has been the last month and a half we are back, that includes my co host/editor Ian who recently got back from man camp, Alright enough of that, A winner has been chosen and this weekend when I have time to write a more compiled entry the winner will be announced and we will let you know which prize this champion of chaos has chosen. So stay tuned and I may yet be able to pull this wreak from the boggy swap that life.

Cheers

P.S.
WCC totally has a huge stock of Space hulk, 20 units in all but only 10 of them will be moving at the 25% off price so hurry on over to there page to snap those up while supplys last, and trust me with prices like those they wont. (Update, I just called them and they havent posted the new stock of hulk so keep checking back)

Hey all yet again I find myself in the hell that is day to day life but there is good news, after this weekend we will have chosen a winner for the Bay Hammer Radio Chaos Tyranids contest. So for your viewing pleasure here are the current entries, all have been done supurbly and I cant thank the contestants who made them enough for taking to the theme so well and putting out some amazing and creative stuff that I just love to see from the kit Bashing community. So without further hesitation.

John Dickerman
Will DowneyQue Ze

So there they all are, it taken ages for me to pick between them and when it comes down to it I would like you the loyal readers to help in my final choice, so please comment away with your thoughts and choices for there can be only one, though they would all look supurb on any battlefield. Also in a last minute feeling of guilt I have decided to offer a small consolation to the two entries not picked, I will personaly write out stats and fluff for the two not picked.

That's right folks the Chaos tyranids contest is over and we are no longer accepting entries, over the next two weeks myself and my Friends over at the octagon will be reviewing the entries and select a lucky winner who will receive his choice of any GW kit valued up to $30 (excluding collectors sets) so stay posted for more info as we pick a winner.

Out and about:
Well due to me getting signed on to a not so lucrative writers position for a certain upcoming animated movie, I have had little time to myself and even less for the blog and I apologise and I promise to start bringing back regular posts by mid month or sooner. for those of you that have stayed with us I thank you doubly.

Mid week update and Contest Reminder

Hey all its been a slow week and there hasn't been much brewing on the events calender so Ill just continue with the project list for now. Over the last few days I have been down in the octagon over at Legends working on the scenery and the game tables, exciting I know and your just dying for more details, however yet again my camera had other plans and we are left with a scant poorly lit snap of two of the CoD buildings I was working on. That being said you'll want to move on down the page to see the contest reminder.

For those of you that missed it the contest is still open for entry's and we are still offering $30 worth of GW merchandise. So get converting and start getting those progress photos sent in to BayHammer@gmail.com If you haven't heard about the contest you can read all about it here

I would like to thank our sponsor WCC West Coast Comics and Collectibles for providing prize support for this event.

Weekend Round Up

Your Local Game Store:
Saturday was of course uneventful, both in part because of it being the 4th and some internal communication errors, Sunday however I managed to get an unplanned game in, or I should say 2 turns of a game in. Most of Sunday was spent down in the Octagon over at Legends re surfacing the terrain tables and painting up most of the buildings and such. Other then that though not much going on but stay tuned, Bay Hammer Radio will be coming to you live in another week or so to cover planetstrike and the 3rd wave of IG and possibly talk about some tips and tactics when playing, or going up against a horde army.

A Word From our Sponsors:
WCC now has all planet strike kits and book in stock at there usual 25% off so if you are on the fence about picking up a set or grabbing the rule book I suggest having a browse through there inventory, at $18 for the book and $22 for the Bastion you are getting a hell of a deal, and keep an eye out for the new Land Speeder Storm and Ironclad Dreadnought on advance order soon. Nobody can beat WCC in value and price so check them out today

Unfortunetly we could only play about 2 turns but here are some pics from my game on sunday, we where both fielding about 1100 points, I of course was using my oh so trusty AoBR Dark Angels and Bryce had of course brought out the hord. By the end of turn 2 I had killed 3 of his boys, 4 storm boyz and immobilised and partialy disabled his Kan, I lost two termies but the game is yet to be resolved and we do plan to pick it back up at a later date. Over all it was fun to finaly play against some of his armie and try out the new board (which he had just finished painting that morning)

Planetstrike 4th of July Quickie

This was originally going to be my response to Jester but it got so long winded that I figured I might as well post it where you all could read it.

its been fun but now having skimmed the book I can honestly say that if you have friend that bought it, don't bother, now not to say it doesn't have some interesting stuff, but there is only about an hour, two hours tops worth of material to learn and most of that is dedicated to pretty pictures and CoD esc stratagems, and a bit of background fluff, now thats not to say I am not enjoying whats been supplied, I am just saying either buy at discount if you can or just go off the store copy if you dont intend to play regularly. If your FLGS keeps a store copy all well in good, if your looking to maximize your game grab the book. The bastion was a fun build but as stated your best bet is to get the strong point set when it comes out (through WCC naturally at $70) to play a PS game with anything less then 2 bastions and 3 defense lines is to have a rather short and limited experience.

Happy 4th

Look What I got

Well thanks to WCC I got my Planet Strike order today rather then wait the extra 24 hours, I of course as with any kit I get, took it home and started build/painting/drybrushing and I have to say once you get the bastion all put together it really is a stunning model, the down side is you need about 3 of them to play an actual game and even at 22 dollars a piece through WCC I just dont have the spare cash, so this one will be used for small games and for larger ones at Legends.

I was going to send some stuff over to the guys at Hogs Of War but as usual my camera just wasent going to have any of that so instead I will tell you some fun facts I found in the PS book

-small plastic rectangle piece in bastion is actually a trap door
-GW recycled alot of imagery
-The size of a decent game is 2k pts
-like cities of death PS uses several stratagrams and loadouts
-possible additional terrain spotted (I dont care what you people say let me have hope for an indomitable fortress)

Well thats the short list I am as I type skimming over the book so expect something much more detailed when I have more time to sit down and write out a full review.

Bay Hammer Contest!

That's right, its July 1st so that means the Bay Hammer Radio Chaos Tyranids contest is officially on. If you have already listened to the show you might have already started but for the rest of you here we go.

First of a simple explanation, back when BoLs ran an article saying that they had heard that there might be a new 40k race in the works I laughed and turned to my friend and said "I think its going to be chaos Tyranids" needless to say the joke spiraled out of control until the Chaos Tyranids became the official Bay Hammer radio mascots.

So here's the pitch, what do you think a Chaos tyranid would look like, if you think your idea is worth the chance to wine $30 worth of GW products (basically any set valued up to) then here are a few simple rules to go by when painting/modeling your entry.

First off you have to be a follower on the blog.

1. Can be any current or past Tyranid model except ripper swarms, though if doing a scene piece they can be included
2.must feature Chaos Iconography of some kind and or mutation
3.must be in Chaos Colors it doesn't matter which chaos god you pick so run wild
4.Models do not have to be on a scenic/flocked base, though feel free to do so.
5.you must submit at least 2 progress photos along with the final product
6.All entry's must be submitted by August 1st

Submit all entry's to BayHammer@gmail.com

And that's it, let your imaginations run wild with this one and try and have some fun with it. Oh one last thing, if you win and so kindly decide to mail us the model you will get the very first Bay Hammer Radio Tshirt (autographed by request but seriously this thing will look cool on its own) So get those entry's started and good luck.

Cheers

Scott
BH Senior Editor

P.S.
if there are no entry's at the end of the month we will donate what we would have spent on the prize to the American Veterans Association.

It appears our host for the podcast is also down.

Quick and Dirty Terrain bases

Sorry for the double post tonight but I have been working on this tutorial for awhile and I am going to be fairly busy the next few days so you are getting some some material in advance tonight.

Quick and dirty method for making decent custom terrain bases in 40k. Alright so here is what you are going to need.

-A pair of latex or rubber gloves

-a tub of drywall Spackle

-a putty trowel or Spackle spreader

-a cheap large tip brush (the kind you get in a pack of 5 for $2)

-black primer

-sponge (optional)

-Newspaper

-a generic matte brown acrylic paint (I used reaper master series)

-dark gray acrylic also matte preferable a cheap kind (I use Formula p3 Greatcoat gray)

Alright first off you will want to move to your garage or outside since this stuff gets everywhere, usually you can clean it off once it drys but if it gets on furniture or carpet its going to be a task cleaning so just best to do it where you don't mind a mess.

That being said you'll want to open the tub and hold your base in your other hand, or you can hold it in place on the table while you dig out a finger full of Spackle, now judge how much you think should be used by eye, if you want a little platou you'll want to glob a bit more in the middle, if you want more or less average ground a big finger full of the stuff should do, adjust amount as needed.

Now you will want to spread the glob of Spackle out evenly with the drywall trowel, don't worry if it looks to flat, now with your finger dab at the smoothed layer until its got a little less smooth. Now this is the part where I recommend the artists sponge cause its an easy way of texturing the wet Spackle, just lightly dab the sponge on the Spackle until you see a good even grain/texture. If you don't have an artists sponge you can use a cheap bushy tipped brush, just dab and roll over the layer and use it to push and mold the wet Spackle into any shape or foundation you want.

Before letting it sit to dry take the model you will be placing on it and gently press the base of it in making slight indentations. This is an optional step but it will help greatly when its time to glue the models onto the base.

After the Spackle has dried chip or sand away any loose Spackle on the edges of the base and use the same texturing brush to wipe away any dried loose Spackle on the top, you do not want any dust to accumulate of the sealing primer layer wont harden right and it will chip.

Now that you have cleaned up the base simply take it outside/to your painting area and give it a good primer making sure to get a complete coat, make sure there is no white spots remaining cause it will stand out or chip later on. I use black primer because I make muddy dirt bases but I will tell you an alternative way to make snow/ice bases at the end of this tutorial.

After waiting at least 30 minutes for the primer to dry and seal the Spackle now take that same bushy tipped brush (after washing the Spackle out) and dip the better part of the tip in your gray acrylic and just roll it over the Spackle layer, don't press down to much but make sure everything has a good even coat and try not to go over the edges. After that's dry do the same with the earth/brown acrylic but don't use as much as you did with the gray just enough to cover and only lightly roll over the edges, this will make it look like a mushy clay/earth color and contribute to the aesthetics of the piece.

After everything is dry I like to add just a light layer of black wash, again this is optional but it will add some tone and shadow and fill in any cracks that might have developed when drying. After that a little bit of glue on the contact points of your models and then position them on the base, some glues might slosh over a little bit around the edges of the contact points, simply apply a little bit of that earthen brown or gray on these spots and it should look ok.

Variation/Snow base:

All you need to do is use the artists sponge to flatten and texture the Spackle, then switch out your black primer for a matte white primer. After that drys brush on a generic coat of acrylic white paint, then when that drys use a light blue wash and just gently apply that over the textured surface and around the edges. I have not tried this variation yet but if you do please let me know how it turns out and maybe send us some pictures.

The beauty of this technique is that the foundation material is so pliable and versatile not to mention cheap that you can really do what every you want with it depending on what base colors you use and how you shape it. Indeed you can easily add all manner of flocking be it gravel, sand or greenery and be assured that it will hold, you can also add bits of rubble or little metal plates, as long as you have a good sealed primed base there really is no limit to what you can do with this stuff so toy with it and let me know what you come up with.

Weekend Showdown/1st BoLs post

On The Battlefield:

This weekend over at Legends I managed to get in a brawl with my number one knock down drag out arch enemy army (the guy I played was very nice though) anyways if your wondering, its Necrons, years of abuse at the hands of 3 Edition (unpainted) Necrons had left me a bitter and tested man when it comes to fighting them. However this game turned out to be rather casual and fun, my opponent played a great game and for the most part I won a fair game (we both played about 1000 points) So now after realising how badly GW has neglected that codex I have taken a much softer view on playing them, this dose not mean I wont do everything I can to blow them away but this game was definitely one of sportsmanship.

Deployment saw my Dark Angels fielding two 10 man tac squads, a chapter master, two dreadnoughts with Multi meltas and a squad of termies and a razorback with a twin plas las configuration.

He fielded 3 destroyers 6 scarab swarms, 20 Warriors and one lord with the orb (I was assured that that was 1000 points)

Turn one saw my orbital strike obliterate his scarab swarms (by accident naturally) which In my opinion possibly lead to my victory later on do to the loss of the only unit that might have taken down my Razorback.

Turn 2 was mostly short movement, I brought my Dreadnoughts up to the front and he swung his destroyers around to face my Razorback while I played it safe and kept my Tac squads out of range and stationary so I could fire twin frag missiles into his ranks through the broken cover.

Turn 3 was a firefight between my dug in marines and a unit of his Warriors of which he had attached his lord to, in the end I felled 4 of them but thanks to the "well be back" rule he had managed to resurrect all 4. It was at this point that his lords squad became the soul target of the full force of my dreadnoughts, but to no avail I managed to wing a lone Destroyer and wound his lord but he managed to bounce back.

Turn 4 was mostly much of the same but by now he had lost 3 of his warriors and my Razor back was doing its best to lay into his Destroyers with a full barrage from the twin las plas and storm bolter but again he made some damn good saves, oh it is at this point I will mention that my termies which where brought to the front also suffered some damage, I lost two but by the shinning light of the dice gods I managed to make a miraculous 10 saves (don't ask me how)

Turn 5 was a drag out fire fight but when the dice stopped rolling and the dust had settled 2 of his Destroyers where down and he had jumped his remaining warriors to my side of the table to face off. He managed to blast away 4 Tac marines but by turn 6 I was on the counter attack.

Turn 6 saw my heavies open up in full force with my two rocket launchers and a flamer which in the end smashed his lord and another warrior, here we can see the end result with his broken Destroyers.

Over all it was a great game and I hope to get the chance to play him again although maybe with a little less armor. In the end though what really capped it was my heavy weapons and ranged armor. I think that had I taken Sicarius as I usually do instead of a chapter master things may have gone differently. When it came down to it he was prepared for an assault where as I planned a ranged offensive (I played eldar and now guard of course I am going to be shooty) though to be fair the tactics I used where more guard then space marine, I simply filed up my marines and moved my armor into cover and began multiple barrages which over the course of the game eventually ground down his warriors.

On The Work Bench:
Its a new week and guess what I am back on the the guard, that right I now can devote my attention the the Hammer of the imperium because today my order from pig iron came in. 20 Kol militia covered heads to go nicely on the 69th troopers. I also got in my tech priest from WCC, which I have to say was a thrill to paint slightly inebriated, but still i love the robes and bare metal on this model, I wish my camera was not in such a temperamental state. So expect more on the Guard in the coming weeks.

Ok just a reminder, on the 1st of July we will be officially announcing the Bay Hammer Radio contest so stay tuned for that on the blog.

And now for something Different

-Imperial 66-

-rules of the game-

These rules are meant not only to frustrate you possibly to the point of violent behavior but to force creativity in game dynamics and strategy, you may find that with shackled with these rules in play you will see more ways to play the game and from many more angles while at the same time testing your knowledge and skill of the game. This is not for new players, this is a headache waiting to happen and if its not tell us what we can do to change that.

1: Game cannot exceed 1200 points

2:Artillery must have Line of sight

3:There can be no HQ choices

4:Allies are not allowed

5:Units must be at minimum base painted

6:Heroic and Legendary units are not allowed

7:All Terrain is difficult Terrain

8:Missiles will only roll to scatter 1d6

9:Game Cannot exceed 2 hours

10:Deep striking and infiltrate are not allowed

These rules have been inspired by the short lived film school known as the Dogma 95, a cinematic manifesto written by Lars Von Trier and Thomas Vinterberg. It was essentially a set of extremely limiting restrictions on film making and in a similar spirit we have drafted up some similar rules to essentially making it as hard as possible to play a basic game.

I was sitting around flipping through my DVDs and I randomly pulled out a copy of the 5 obstructions a classic dogma 95 film which illustrates all the key points of the original manifesto. So I thought to myself "how can I adapt this to 40k" the truth is to do so I would have to expand to more then 10 rules and at best this will be annoying so please let me know how you think you could help adapt these to make a simple game of 40k absolute mental hell. I will point out I am not being cruel I am being creative and I hope this will inspire some of you to take on another view of the game.

Reaching back

Alright so last night in a fit of nostalgia I ripped through my boxes and managed to dig up my copy of rogue trader (with no torn pages thank you very much) and while reading through what can be called the foundation of the 40k universe I realised something, we got screwed. Now let me explain my nerd rage for a moment, the original game, in essence was an RPG more then a table top strategy now given that it has evolved into a much larger entity, but in doing so GW effectively stripped out a majority of interesting fluff and units (and of course many other smaller races like the squats and the Jokaero) not only that but the emperor used to actually still communicate with the high lords of terra. In short I feel that in the transition from a classic miniature based RPG to table top strategy a lot of cool ability's and options and plot where lost. Ok maybe I am just being obvious but I l got introduced through rogue trader/3rd edition and I am now getting used to 5th edition and I feel cheated.

Ok so here is why I brought this up, my Sargent's that came with my black reach marines do not have bolters, instead they seem to be pointing at nothing in particular, so I thought "what if I can make a hand weapon without having to mod the model" well I did and damn it I converted it from a weapon found in rogue trader called "The Jokaero Digital weapon" now obviously I cant convert the stats to easily to 5th edition so here's what I did, I just took the stats from Yarricks Baal eye, since they are almost identical weapons in function I find it to work perfectly. Just a fluff option for casual games but still I think its a pretty nifty substitute.

So in lue of anything useful or interesting I posted this, its been a slow day, also if you have any RT marines or guard you would be willing to sell or trade send me a line. Questions and comments always welcome.

Episode 1: Remastered

Thats right I spent the last 2 hours converting the whole show over to new audio and going through and removing all the suck and awkward moments and what we have left is something that resembles what the originally planned show should have sounded like. So now if you have been holding off telling your friends about the show because the raw audio on ustream was a bit to long winded you can now link them to the gcast page (our webcast audio host) and be assured they they will in fact speak to you again the next day. But in all seriousness we have been seeing a lot more attention and there have been requests to set up an RSS feed for the show. You can now subscribe by clicking the link under the embedded player on this page.

Update:
I am not overly thrilled with that echo still in the beginning and the volume is still a little high so ill be updating that recording tomorrow night.

On The Work Bench:
Yet again I have another Blood Angels Commission, this time its a Land Speeder Tornado, optimized for anti infantry (cause that's what Ian usually goes for) I have to say for such a small project, I mean I got most of this done in just a few hours, its been a fun build and paint project. After this I cant wait to pick up the new land speeder storm to add to my Dark angels so keep an eye out for that project coming up in the next few weeks.

Happy Fathers Day and Battle Report

First off if you are one of the many lucky men to have the fortune to oversee the growth and learning development of your own gene stealer brood then happy fathers day (seriously though with what my father has done for me over the years I cannot express how much I owe him. So enjoy your fathers day)

So on a less dramatic note, we finally organized the game space down in the octagon (only had to move a few hundred pounds of metal to really open the place up, also there are more tables behind me this shot just looked best) so now things are much more feng shui I suppose.

Two of the game tables and a BR demo table

In other news, I got in not one but two battles over at Legends on Saturday, Ill spare you the long back and forth details of my first battle, one cause I forgot to get my camera and two because I was fighting Tau and it was basically a slap fight between his Devilfish and my twin Dreadnoughts for the first three rounds.

Turn 3 saw the loss of 1 of my Dark Angels squads
and a unit of his fire warriors to both storm bolter fire
and a incident involving a GPS failure during the moral check

Again in turn 3 Dreadnought number one managed to take down one of the enemy Devilfish but not without taking a fatal blow wreaking it, but in the process saving the second dred from the remaining garrisoned tau's LoS
The start of turn 4 See's the broken smoking hull of the Devilfish (imagine smoke damn you)
By Turn 6 our commanders had come to blows in a furious battle in which neither commander could gain the upper hand (he didn't fall for the untied shoe trick either)

The match ended with the failed roll to go into turn 7 and with a roughly equal amount of points and units lost we decided to call it a draw. All in all it was a great game and I hope for a rematch (Ill have my marines taste fresh sushi yet)

Alright so to start of the intro to my second battle I will say this, I lost, tabled by turn 5 by a combination of poor choice of unit place meant on my part and a slightly better list from my opponent (who by the way was fielding some amazingly painted salamanders)

Deployment

Turn 2 Dedicated Transport moves to table edge
My dread backed by infantry goes to meet them

by turn 3 my infantry have been out flanked by his mobile armor but I have managed to take out his company master and one of his assault bikes and a few odd infantryTurn 4 I have my Terminators holed up in the ruins firing into the massed troops both behind the dedicated rhino and in the open

Turn 5 my infantry is decimated both dreds are down and my commander has finallay been blown away by his bike.

Over all it was a good game, I wish I had moved my dreads into his armor a lot sooner but I made the gamble to split my forces to try and divide his target list, which needless to say he had enough troops and armor to compensate for. Again look forward to a rematch, possibly against my Guard when I have them done, but for now the Dark Angels will have to do.

Happy Fathers Day

Planet Strike is comming up, so dont forget to place your advance orders with WCC to have everything at your door by game night.
